The Lover is a bucolic short story about Judith, a girl in a small town whose life is overshadowed by her older sister. Both are vying over the town’s most desirable bachelor who chooses between the elder sister. But that doesn’t stop Judith from making some bad choices. Eventually she befriends a stranger from out of town, who will turn out to be more than she expects and at the same time, the solution to all her problems.

This is a lovely short story by the fantastic pen of Mexican-Canadian author Silvia Moreno-Garcia, one of my favorite authors. It’s worth well a read.
