Review – The Eye of Darkness by George Mann

Cover for "The Eye of Darkness" by George Mann, showing Marchion Ro, with bare blue arms sitting on a throne of rock, wielding his red eye helmet and a yellow lightsaber.

After more than a year, we finally go back to the point where the enormous station, Starlight Beacon is destroyed and crashes over the seas of Eiram, in fact, it starts one year after the disaster. Tension between the Republic and the Nihil “empire” is at a high point, with skirmishes near the borders of the Stormwall.

While trying to breach the Stormwall from both sides, a failed attempt enrages Marchion Ro, who reveals he has captured Grand Jedi Master Pra-Tre Veter, and shows to the galaxy his execution at the paws of a Nameless creature. Marchion Ro also immediately enlarges his territory, pushing the boundaries of the Stormwall and encompassing more planets, including Naboo.

With great hardship, some Jedi inside the Occlusion Zone manage to breach the Stormwall. Avar Kriss devises a one-time solution, and Porter Engle has the opportunity to return to the Republic, but cedes his chance and remains to battle his old nemesis, General Viess.

In all, a great novel that continues to fan the expectations and moves toward the resolution.
