“Cataclysm” is the adult novel by Lydia Kang that closes the second phase of The High Republic publishing event. After the disastrous events on Jedha, as told in “The Battle of Jedha”, all converges in Dalna, the backwater planet where the Path of the Open Hand had its compound.
As if drawn in by the Force, several Jedi groups, unbeknown to each other arrive to the planet, following clues or wanting to make contact with the Mother and the Path of the Open Hand. Even Jedi Gella Natal who is on her way to talk to Axel Greylark and becomes a stepping stone in his prison escape. Even the embattled heirs of Eiram and E’ronoh, Phan-tu and Xiri, join the Dalna conflict.
And what the Mother has intended is a final stand in the caves and around them, using their own as living shields in a truly epic battle that will have repercussions for decades, where the fates of many Jedi will be decided.
Well written and with a fantastic pace, this novel delivers on all the action that might have been missing in the rest of phase two, with all kinds of skirmishes won and lost, all from Jedha to Dalna, and many huge changes to the galaxy.
Extremely recommended!
