Review – Crimson Reign

Cover for "Crimson Reign" showing Qi'ra wielding electro-swords on both hands, wearing a Crimson Dawn top. In the background, her ship, the Vermillion, and the heads of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.

A sequel to the crossover event “War of the Bounty Hunters”, “Crimson Dawn” is the middle of Charles Soule’s trilogy, right before “Hidden Empire”. Art is provided by Steven Cummings, Victor Olazaba and Guru-eFX.

After declaring war on the Empire, Qi’ra’s allies (willing or not) enact all kinds of ploys to undermine the Sith themselves. A large group of characters, from new ones like the Archivist, to familiar faces like the Knights of Ren (with the band’s original frontman and lineup), they embark on missions to get items of power that can tip the balance in the Galaxy.

The art is superb, clean and crisp, and the battles do not feel mudded. The premise is interesting, serving as a counterpart to the Rebellion’s fight against the Empire, although definitely more revenge-focused on Qi’ra’s part.

The ending is a bit ambiguous but I hope this will be explained in the next crossover event.
