“Darth Vader: Vol. 4” by Greg Pak, with art by Leonard Kirk, Guiu Vilanova and Raffaele Ienco, is the corresponding volume for the “Crimson Reign” crossover. More loosely adjacent than what we saw for “War of the Bounty Hunters”, this volume takes things too far in the Empire-Crimson Dawn conflict, with double and triple crossings and generally making the entire plot a mess.
The central character is former Padmé-handmaiden Sabé, who continues her arc from previous Darth Vader issues, here she is allied with Crimson Dawn but also tries to use Darth Vader as an ally to undermine the Empire. Vader and Ochi of Bestoon go to war with one another or against one another, and from one panel to another while you can say who is battling each other, you cannot tell why.
The art as said is extremely good, but it’s hard to see heads from tails. Not recommended.
